Closer look at drifting styles
Having the in car cameras have been good for us from a drivers point of view, as it lets us review our pefrormances and critique our style.
Lets have a look at what everyones drives like.
Here is a ride with Hai @ Winton.
Very relaxed and has a one hand on the wheel aproach which differs from everyone else. Can get caught up when the car doesnt do what he wants. The most aggresive driving.
On board with Nige for a couple of runs in the wet @ Baskerville.
Two handed driving is plus, and really gets everything into pulling that handbrake lever! Probably the most “frantic” behind the wheel but definately not crazy arms. You can tell the car is well set up by how easy it looks to drive.
Riding with Papa. In Tassie @ Baskerville in the WET again!
More traditional stlye hand work, both hands on the wheel and trying to minimise the free spinning of the wheel.
Doesnt mind a quick mid corner gear change! Still fairly relaxed and no crazy arms but plenty of clutch work.
And now the man, Agess. We are at Marulan DTC in NSW for this one.
Easily the most relaxed out of the team, very much a “street” style of drifting. Likes a free spinning wheel and does border on one handed steering but only when going for the hand brake. And he has screws loose in his head.
Now lets have a look at our mate Jake “Driftsquid” Jones @ Winton also.
A little more twitchy and manic behind he wheel, loves the wheel spinning too. Good driver and keeps the car pointing where he wants. Car sounds tough too!
So as you can see there is really no wrong or right way of driving just everyone’s own variation on it. Sure some can be better than others and there are some technical things to remember like not letting go of the steering wheel fully, counter steering correctly ect…. but they all work!
Ill try to revisit this at the end of the year and see if we got better or worse.
