Calder Drags wrap up – December 2009
Well the ID drag night was run and won a couple of weeks ago now, and we have Hai-boss doing his wrap up from the drivers seat that night.
December 4……. The Insane Drifters drag night started with Agess actually rocking up to an event EARLY! For the first time ever he was ready in time and turned up at Calder Park at midday only to be turned away by the staff at the gate with a small oil leak. So he had a short drive home and had the turbo line fixed in a matter of minutes.
As for myself, I rocked up at 2.30 expecting to be near the front as the gates were meant opening at 5.00, boy was i wrong. The line was already 200m down the freeway entrance. Add the massive wait in the que to the hour you had to wait before scruitineering and race time suddenly becomes 6.30!

Just waiting in line for scruitineering…..

The line didnt seem to stop. It just kept getting longer.
Now we finally got down to business. The race. Me and Agess had a little bet on the night to see who would come out fastest.
My night went a little like this.
1st pass, I was running Neuton 235 17′s at 20psi, had an average launch with no traction and span the wheels half way down the quarter mile to a time of 12.90.
2nd pass, we dropped the tyre pressure down to 9psi to try and get some sort of traction!! Again it was a bad launch, and still no grip down the strip the time dropped to 12.35.
3rd pass, left the tyres where they were and was going for a better launch with easier changes to try and keep the spinning to a minimum. Lights went green and I launched off the line with a BANG! Snapped a drive shaft so that was it for my night.
Agess’ night went a little differently though. He can never do things half assed, always has to try and have the best of everything so he had the car set up with massive 15″ drag slicks just to make sure he wouldnt have the traction problems of everyone else and probably so he knew he would win the bet.
So with his slicks all warmed and ready to go Agess put down an 11.38 on his first pass, easily taking the win for the bet. After we had to tell him about 6 times what time he got, Agess got pumped to launch harder and bring the times down. On his second run he dropped it off the line from 7,000rpm, got a perfect launch and kept traction the whole track along with his stealth like gear changes to an awesome time of 11.03 at 125miles p/h. Not bad for the 270kw the car puts down. So he did try for the rest of the night to creep into the 10′s but the best he could manage was a couple more 11.1′s. Lucky bugger didnt even break anything even with those massive slicks.
You can see his run here at 6.22 mark.
Overall it was a good night with the boys, we put down some good times and had to stop from clutch kicking 3rd and fishying down the straight though!
Also good to see more imports out this month, after the last month with only a handful of turbos, the cars were out in force.
There is definately going to be more nights out at the drags, hopefully we can get all four cars down next time for some proper head to head action.
HAI.
